Kirsty Bertenshaw

I qualified as a Teacher of Science in 2007 and absolutely love teaching!

During my time teaching within schools, I developed an extracurricular STEM club promoting fun while learning. This became very successful, winning “Best STEM Club in the West Midlands” for 2 years running as well as a special invite to the Big Bang Fair at the Houses of Parliament and being featured on the cover of the National Science and Engineering Challenge Pack. I myself achieved a nomination for Most Dedicated STEM Teacher and was in the top 3 teachers in the country in 2012, followed by Most Dedicated STEM Teacher nomination in 2013.

I delivered several STEM CPD sessions to colleagues from other schools while in the role of STEM Coordinator, and offered advice on starting STEM clubs to new teachers. This led to developing and delivering further training sessions including a CPD session at the National Science Learning Centre in York entitled "Promoting STEM careers through practical work" and a specialist training session for PGCE students at University of Warwick.

I feel very passionate about promoting STEM, and enabling all students to access the learning that meets their needs, and began the company to provide the support I believe all students are entitled to.

I previously wrote a regular column in the online education magazine Education Today, and have published a book entitled  Tried and Tested Primary Science Experiments: Practical Enhancements for Science in the Primary Curriculum. I have also produced resources a for OCR and previously marked GCSE papers, and written articles published by the ASE (Association of Science Educators) and Potential Plus promoting STEM.
